I finished Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky a while back. I can’t give a detailed review of it - or even a synopsis of the plot - without dropping spoilers, but it’s a good, meaty hard sci-fi book about evolution and terraformed planets and the drawbacks of being locked in a cryochamber for centuries, and other things. SECRET things. SPOILERY things. 📚
CoT won an Arthur C Clarke award. There’s a lot of big, expansive themes in the book that remind me of Clarke’s writing, so it makes sense.
At the beginning of last year, I was feeling so inspired and ready to go, art-wise. Lots of ideas in the hopper. And for the first few months, I got some stuff done! I started a series of vine/nature-covered street signs that I want to get back to. But then this year happened, and it was a hard year for most of us, it seems. Then I worked on various iterations of this damn arboretum piece from July-September and made myself finish it.
I read a lot, but I don’t usually do reviews. I’m trying to change that, because I’ve realized that writing out my actual thoughts on this stuff helps me understand the media I consume better. This will be as vague as possible to avoid spoilers.📚
